DWELL

an iOS & Android app

App privacy

The Dwell app, in plain terms.

Last updated: June 11, 2026.

Dwell operates this app. This note covers what the app collects and why. It’s about the app itself; the website has its own note at dwellapps.com/privacy. If anything here matters to you, email hello@dwellapps.com.

What the app collects

Your account. When you open the app we create an anonymous account so your record can sync and back up. If you add an email and password, we store those so you can sign back in.

What you write. The plain-English entries you type are the core of the app. To turn an entry into skills and progress, it is sent to our AI provider (currently OpenAI) for classification and stored on our backend against your account. Write into the app the way you would into a journal that a service will read.

Your progress. Skills, levels, places, landmarks, challenges, and timestamps, all computed from your own entries.

Location, only if you ask for it. If you tap “use my current location” or add a place, the app reads your device location at that moment to find the spot and drop a map pin. We do not track your location in the background.

Diagnostics. If the app crashes or errors, we receive a report through Sentry (device model, OS version, and a stack trace) so we can fix it. These reports do not include your entries or screenshots.

Usage analytics. Anonymous, first-party events such as an app open, which screens you view, and that an entry was logged (with its skill and effort, never its text), tied only to your anonymous account id. We use this to understand how the app is used and to improve it. You can turn it off anytime in Account.

Photos you attach to a pin stay on your device. We don’t upload or store them.

How we use it

We use this data to provide, operate, secure, and improve the app, to sync and back up your record, and to communicate with you about it. We do not use advertising identifiers, we do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell your data.

Who processes it

We rely on a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf under their own terms: Supabase (database, accounts, and analytics), OpenAI (classifies your entries), Sentry (crash reports), and Expo, Apple, and Google (app delivery and update checks, which see your device’s IP address). We may add or change providers as the app evolves.

Your choices

You can turn off usage analytics at any time in the app’s Account screen. To delete your account and everything tied to you, use the in-app delete option or email hello@dwellapps.com — details at dwellapps.com/delete-account. After deletion we may keep records that can no longer be connected to you, such as de-identified activity descriptions and their effort estimates, which keep the app’s estimates consistent for everyone. We commit to never re-identifying them.

Children

Dwell is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We may update this policy as the app changes. Material updates will be reflected on this page with a new date above.
